Unfortunately, Twitter doesn’t provide a way to delete multiple/all direct messages at once. You can delete them individually, but that’s going to take a hell lot of your time if you have too many direct messages in your account.

That’s when the DM Whacker bookmarklet comes handy. Just drag the bookmarklet on this page to your bookmarks bar. Go to the direct messages page after logging into your Twitter account and click on the DM Whacker bookmarklet.

You can use the options that appear on the sidebar there to delete DMs from a particular user only, or all DMs. You can delete direct messages from both or either of your Inbox/Sent folders. Deleting a DM from your sent folder will also delete the same from the recipient’s Inbox folder. DM Whacker does take up a few moments to delete all your direct messages – so wait patiently till as the page reloads several times. When all’s done, you’ll get a confirmation window from DM Whacker, akin to this:

Please note that this little tool is ‘beta’ – so try it at your own risk. It could throw up some problems as mentioned in the creator’s page.

Loic Le Meur wanted authority search on Twitter and it just happened. In just about 12 hours, Jon Wheatley managed to make just that – he launched an authority based search engine for Twitter called Twitority (see Techcrunch coverage here). You can go there to search tweets and filter the results based on the number of followers one has.

Just a few minutes ago, I saw somebody tweeting. The guy was looking for someone to do a small job for him and he was ready to pay him for that. I’m just thinking: what if there’s a centralized site that lets you find people who’re seeking some help with their task, and are ready to outsource it for some money.

People seeking help usually tweet like “I’m looking for someone who can [insert job here]”. A site built using the Twitter API could analyse the messages, filter out tweets based on such phrases and we tweeple could go check the site for some latest offers and offer some assistance. The site could further categorise tweets in a variety of categories like “web design”, “copy writing”, “php coding” and the like.

Going further, once the job is done, the one who offered the job pays the guy who did it the bucks and then he could further rate his work on the site or even write a testimonial. This way, a profile is maintained about the person on the site.

Others checking up on the site could see it and then consider if they should hand him over their chores. They could also have a leaderboard or something of that kind – one who goes crazy picking up a lot of job offers and fulfilling them gets listed on it and is more visible on the site. Something like Twitpay could be used for tracking payments.

I took a paper and sketched some of these things. Have a look:

Ask and ye shall receive is what Techcrunch said about Twitority. Is any developer out there listening to what I’ve just written? Or do you think my idea is dumb?

Orkut today brought out a light and zippier version of the site targeted at users who are accessing it on a dial up or a low bandwidth connection.

Dial up users – in order to activate and use the Orkut site in its stripped down, low bandwidth version, you need to do the following:

Go to Orkut ‘General Settings’

In the page, under ‘Low Bandwidth’ select ‘Show the low bandwidth version of Orkut’

Click ‘Save Changes’

You can now start browsing Orkut in your very low speed dialup connection. It’s really a big time saver too. Images will be missing, but can be loaded only upon request.
