Reverse lookup services weren’t very accurate when I tried to trace the location of a mobile phone number in India, but they could just help you in finding at least the state where these mobile phones are operating from.

Here’s what I mean: You can create an .NBU backup and restore it completely to your phone afterward. But you just can’t read an individual SMS message, contacts list data, graphic or theme from that backup. That means it’s pretty useless from one point of view. You could even face problems if you try to restore the backup to a phone of a different model.

Is there a way to make these files readable, you ask? Well, there is. Thanks to a third party software called Noki, it’s possible to view individual graphics, messages, drafts, contacts and other data from your backed up .NBU file. What’s more, you could even extract this data into a simple format. For instance, you could convert your contacts into a simple .csv/text/html file. Cool, isn’t it?

Here’s how you can backup contacts, files and other settings from your Nokia mobile phone:

• First, download the latest version of the Nokia PC Suite from here and install it. Connect your mobile phone and let the drivers install themselves
• Once that is done, launch the PC Suite by clicking on the PC Suite icon
• Click on the Backup icon on the PC Suite

• A dialog window should popup. Select your mobile phone from the drop down list, and then click on the ‘Backup’ icon

• Now, check the stuff that you wish to be backed up from your Nokia mobile, it could be anything from contacts list to messages to files on the memory card

• Press the Next arrow
• Now, specify a location on your computer where the backup should be saved

• Press the Next arrow. The backup process should begin now

• When the backup is finished, you’ll get a confirmation that everything went right. Click close to exit

To restore the backup to your mobile phone:

• Click on the Restore button in the Nokia Contents copier, select the backup file and proceed

• All backed up settings will be restored to the mobile phone

I scouted for some solutions on the web, and here are two possible solutions that could solve the issue.

• First, go to Start > Run and type this into the Run Dialog Box: Regsvr32.exe %Windir%\System32\Ole32.dll

• Windows will then throw up a dialog box:

• Restart your computer and try copying the files again. Things should work fine now.

In case, you’re still getting the error with the message “The operation could not be completed”, follow these steps:

• Start the Nokia PC Suite
• Click on the ‘Update PC Suite’ link in the right extreme at the bottom of the window.

• Download the update. Once the download is complete, the Nokia PC suite will update itself with the new version.
• Restart and copy your files. You should be able to transfer files from your computer to your Nokia phone now. Good luck!

If you’re still unable to transfer files, you need to format your memory card.

Updating Nokia Mobile Phone Firmware

Here I’ll tell you the things you need to do in order to update the embedded firmware in your Nokia cell phone.

Things to do before a firmware update:

1. Install Nokia PC Suite, and back up all the stuff from your phone to your computer.
2. Charge your phone battery to its full level.
3. Beware that any hindrance (like power off, etc.) during the update process can damage your phone.

Let’s get started.

1. In your Nokia mobile phone, type in *#0000#
   Your Nokia mobile will now display the firmware version it’s running
2. Carefully open the back case of your mobile, and also take away the battery.
3. Note the product number down
4. Go here and type the product number. You’ll now know if a new version of firmware for your Nokia mobile phone is available
5. Download the Nokia Software Updater. Click here to download it
6. Install the Nokia Software Updater (I think it’s recommended to run it if you have more than 256 MB of RAM on your computer)
7. Connect your Nokia mobile phone via the USB port, and also make sure your computer is connected to the internet
8. Run the Nokia Software Updater by clicking on the icon on your desktop
9. The Nokia Software Updater connects to the internet, checks for updates, and then detects your phone to start installing firmware updates for your Nokia phone
10. You might see some fuzzy things going on in your Nokia phone, and that’s perfectly normal to happen during a firmware update
11. When all’s done, the updater gives a confirmation message and then the phone restarts
12. You can now disconnect the phone from the computer
