ADVERTISEMENTS

Are you one of those people who enjoy collecting movies on your hard drive? Do you find it irritating to find movies cluttered up with weird file names in different folders? Here’s an app you must try and will most certainly love once you see what it does.

Movie Monkey is a free application that allows you to scan your system for movies, retrieves information about them from the internet.  It creates your own movie catalogue with all the films you have stored and presents it a place from where you can access them easily with one click.

The Movie Monkey Interface

The only thing you will be doing is pointing the application to the folders in your computer where all the movies are stored. You can add as many folders as you like and whenever a new file is put in, it automatically gets added to the library. Then you can sit back and relax as all the movies are catalogued with their posters automatically retrieved from IMDb, which is the largest source for movie information on the internet.

Adding Movies to the Library

The app detects movies from any languages as long as they have decent non-ambiguous file names. You also have the option manually fill in the names for the movies which don’t get identified, which will help you ensure nothing gets left out.

Movie Monkey is every movie fanatic’s best friend. Once you have your catalogue ready, finding and watching movies can never be easier. Here are some of the cool features make things amazingly convenient for you:

Searching:

Searching for movies make things so much easier

Instant searching saves you a lot of time by finding the movie you are looking for. Your search entry will be matched with the name of the movie, and not it’s file name. So you need not worry about what name you gave to the file when you downloaded it.

Categories:

Categories are a much welcome feature

All the movies which are present in the library get automatically sorted into their respective categories. Finding movies which will suit your mood will no longer be difficult.

Descriptions:

More options are revealed upon clicking the movie

Clicking on the poster shows the movie’s rating and the plot-line. The more information you have, the more easy it is to decide whether you have to see it or not. You can play the movie or look into the complete profile at IMDb with a single click.

Sorting:

Movies can be sorted by Title, Year and Rating

You can sort movies in your catalogue by their names, their rating and their year of release. There is also a Watched and Unwatched option (for which you will have to pick movies initially) which can be applied to all the filtering options. When you are confused about what movie to watch, this will be really handy.

You can download Movie Monkey by hitting the download button on this page. It is currently available for only Windows, but Linux and Mac versions are expected to roll out soon.
