Download Sample Google Chrome Extensions
A lot of people were expecting support for extensions on Google Chrome and voila! You can now try your hands ona few official Google Chrome Extensions now. The extensions are pretty basic, but the fact that Google Chrome now officially supports them is exciting. In this post, I’m going to take you in a walkthrough on how to go about installing these sample Google Chrome addons.
Enable and Download Google Chrome Extensions
First, go to Google Chrome options and make sure you have the anonymous usage statistics option checked.

In order to install these sample extensions, you need to be subscribed to the Dev channel of Google Chrome. And for that, you need to download this little 100 KB Google Chrome Channel Changer, run it and choose the Dev option and press Update. Make sure Google Chrome isn’t running when you do this.

Now, go to Google Chrome, click on the rightmost Settings button and click About Google Chrome. In the window that pops up, hit Update Now. Once the update is complete you’ll get the following message:

Click OK and close Google Chrome.
If you have a Google Chrome shortcut in your desktop, edit the shortcut to add the --enable-extensions parameter. Double click on the shortcut to open Google Chrome.

Go to this page and click on the Install link for any extension. You’ll get a dialog asking you to confirm your action. Click OK.

In the screenshot below, you can see the Gmail checker addon in action. It displays a small bar at the bottom of the page that shows the number of unread emails in your Gmail inbox.

That’s how you enable extensions in Google Chrome. Let us know in the comments if you have any questions.

Note: You have to turn “Ask where to save each file before downloading” OFF if you want it to prompt you for installing extensions. I’m assuming they will fix this in the future.
