You’re joking, right? I found that panel. It does NOT include Internet Explorer. I’m still trying to figure out how to disable drive indexing without just nuking the indexer service like I used to do in XP).

@ the people who complain that they can’t disable features in windows 7 :

    1) If you don’t have administrator rights in the PC it is very possible that you can’t turn them off.
    2) Maybe you have the full view of the control panel, showing you many more choices than those depicted in the screenshots. In such a case choose Programmes & Features and on the left side of the window you will see the “Turn Windows features on & off” choice. once you click it you should get the window that appears on the last screenshot

This is a good tip, but unfortunately, this feature doesn’t include access to disable other, more annoying features. For example, I want to turn off the display pane that opens for my IE sessions, when I mouse over any of the IE buttons on the task bar.

It’s part of a general trend in MS’ development, I think. The whole Office 2010 suite of apps has a lot of features that are probably a lot of fun for folks who aren’t too technical, but make things harder to find, in my opinion. Reorganizing the features in Word and in Excel into tabs, for example. It’s easier to find everything on one toolbar, for me, at least.
