Well, I’m still using Avast Home Edition. But I’ve read good reviews about Kaspersky. Its worth giving a try, I guess.

Nice find SK! I am currently using the 6 months subscription of the previous Kaspersky AV. Looking forward to test this one!

Gave this a try, after reading your eval/recommendation. Am running XP Pro with Service pack 3 installed. Took a LONG time for it to download the ‘updates’, and do a ‘Full Scan’ (though I expected scan to take a long time, as over 1.2 terra-bytes to scan). Program kept asking me about ‘legitimate’ programs accessing the internet (almost drove me buggy), and identified (as Virus, Trojan, etc.) many files that I know are NOT.

NOW… After this, I decided to ‘uninstall’ Kaspersky Suite. It seemed to be doing uninstall, then ‘nothing’. I left system alone for over 5 minutes (just in case it WAS doing something). Still nothing. Guess what… system was now ‘non-functional’. LOCKED UP!!!! Still don’t know if it’s all gone or not.

Hope this doesn’t happen to everyone who give this a try (especially if it’s based on your recommendation). This is FIRST time I’ve ever had any trouble with software you recommended. (Not the norm from your newsletter.)

Just wanted to pass along what happened. Don’t know if having Service Pack 3 installed may have caused this to happen, or what.

Your Blog is pretty amazing.
As on 10th JUNE 08, Kaspersky has blacklisted all pirated version keys and free keys. So this wont work. Its the best antivirus no doubt, but right now no keys are available for free. I am suffering too..
Those you do try to install are getting horrifying experiences such as one mentioned above.

It is a known fact that Kaspersky(R) and other antivirus software as do many software programs, just do not get along with an update contained by the “Service Pack 3(C)”, but it will soon be corrected by Microsoft(R).

I USE TREND MICRO AND BOY IS IT A RESOURCE HOG…

I have been using Kaspersky Internet Security 7.0 for quite awhile! The scans are a little slow but it has a comprehensive firewall and a great detection rating. I’m a little excited to see how the 09 version will pan out.

I can’t believe how many people are out there trying to cheat Kaspersky out of payment for their excellant work. I also don’t understand why they go through all of the trouble screwing around fudging subscription keys here and there when all they really need to do is buy a three year license for K-Sky for 3 or more PCs and enjoy the protection. Let’s do the math . . . $160 for a 3 Users x 3 Years license = $18 a year for probably the best CONSISTENT firewall/antivirus protection money can buy. Just about every household these days has a few PCs, and if not, I’m sure one could find a friend who would split the costs with them for the 3x license. I have tried many of the other security suites, and none of them has even come close to K-Sky for performance. Norton was a resource hog and frequently programs such as IE that firewall rules had already been put in place for stopped working out of the blue. Zone Alarm had some real pain-in-the-ass issues a few times for the one year that I used it before dumping it, and Windows One Care had to have set the record for the shortest time I’ve ever had any program on my PC before I ripped it out – about 40 Minutes. What a P.O.S. that was! I’ve never used AVG Free myself, but both my son and a friend of our family did, and they both trapped the “Internet Antivirus” virus. If you get one virus infection, any amount of money you though that you saved is blown away by the time you spend trying to fix the problem. In life you get what you pay for; “free” is definitely NOT FREE, unless, of course, you like stabbing yourself with a fork because you think it feels good . . .

There is a rumours that kaspersky will change the structure of its code for the version 2010. I am not sure whether this is a true story or not.
