gOS 2.0 Screenshots and Review
gOS 2.0 is a Linux Distro based on Ubuntu using the Enlightenment Window Manager. Nothing really ground-breaking here, but gOS can run from a live CD and has icons pointing to various Web apps like Gmail, YouTube etc. for easy access.
It can be said as a stripped down and polished version of Ubuntu. Stripped down - because it’s using a light window manager, and, polished - because of the good integration with the latest web 2.0 services and a light graphical appeal.

The most crap OS ever made honestly!
I downloaded the 500MB big ISO yesterday! and burned it to a CD. Then ran the Live CD on my laptop and the OS turned out to be a complete disappointment for me.
I really wasted my time downloading it
@Dj Flush: Haha, as I said, there’s nothing ground breaking here except icons for web 2.0 services. Might help you if you’re having a problem with your default OS and want something done online instantly. Screenshots that you must have seen online must have tempted you try this nonetheless, right?
I found this “gOS” from digit magazine DVD. As far as I am concerned, it did not convince me. But as Shankar said, I was also tempted by those screenshots and wanted to have a look at it……….

Thanks man, I already have downloaded the copy of that, not yet burnt that on a cd. Thanks for info, I wont burn it. Let me try the completed version rather than beta!!!
The worst OS ever made!
I’ve downloaded around 700 MB sized Virtual Image (I’m running VMWare) and found it’s mostly annoying! Linux OSes are known for it’s clean and quick interfaces. But this one doesn’t even got the basic idea about it.
Just having some big list of buttons on various Google Apps doesn’t make a OS a googleOS (gOS)!!!

If Shankar meant this for Live CD’s (as with his other post on “Family Tech Support Guy” also highlights, I would strongly suggest, you better forget gOS for that kind of work.
I always recommend Ubuntu Live CD for all my clients and is the BEST friendly OS I’ve ever seen (except of course, Mac OS X)
A Live CD can run all of the things out of the box (mostly!). So, firing a Firefox and typing your Google Applications won’t cost you like having using gOS Live CD for that matter!
I guess this should be faster because it runs Enlightenment. If the machine has humongous amount of RAM. running this from a LiveCD is a breeze, IMHO.

@Srinivasan: I agree that Ubuntu comes first for emergencies, but nevertheless I was also tempted by the looks of gOS. There’s a long way to go I guess for Web Apps to be integrated more with the OS.
@Syahid: Yeah, I agree that it’s a bit lighter than GNOME.
I’ve heard a lot about gOS, but have not tried it out as yet. thanks for the good review, willl download the ISO and play with it on an old laptop!
