How to update the firmware of your Nokia mobile phone?

ADVERTISEMENTS

Got a Nokia mobile phone? It’s important that you update the mobile phone’s firmware once in a while. Firmware is actually the software that keeps things on your Nokia mobile phone running.

There are a lot of benefits of upgrading your phone’s firmware. You may get functional enhancements, bug fixes etc. Some issues that you might be having with your phone can be solved with a firmware upgrade.

Updating Nokia Mobile Phone Firmware

Here I’ll tell you the things you need to do in order to update the embedded firmware in your Nokia cell phone.

Things to do before a firmware update:

  1. Install Nokia PC Suite, and back up all the stuff from your phone to your computer.
  2. Charge your phone battery to its full level.
  3. Beware that any hindrance (like power off, etc.) during the update process can damage your phone.

Let’s get started.

  1. In your Nokia mobile phone, type in *#0000#
Your Nokia mobile will now display the firmware version it’s running
  2. Carefully open the back case of your mobile, and also take away the battery.
  3. Note the product number down
  4. Go here and type the product number. You’ll now know if a new version of firmware for your Nokia mobile phone is available
  5. Download the Nokia Software Updater. Click here to download it
  6. Install the Nokia Software Updater (I think it’s recommended to run it if you have more than 256 MB of RAM on your computer)
  7. Connect your Nokia mobile phone via the USB port, and also make sure your computer is connected to the internet
  8. Run the Nokia Software Updater by clicking on the icon on your desktop
  9. The Nokia Software Updater connects to the internet, checks for updates, and then detects your phone to start installing firmware updates for your Nokia phone
  10. You might see some fuzzy things going on in your Nokia phone, and that’s perfectly normal to happen during a firmware update
  11. When all’s done, the updater gives a confirmation message and then the phone restarts
  12. You can now disconnect the phone from the computer

That’s how you upgrade your Nokia mobile phone’s firmware. Let me know in the comments if you have any question.

Will it work with Blue tooth instead of USB ?

  2. Shankar Ganesh Says:

@Madhur: No, you can’t use Bluetooth for this purpose. You must connect it via USB only :)

  3. Nirmal Says:

Nice tutorial Shankar! I had written abt updating SE phones.

  4. Techblissonline Dot Com Says:

@Madhur - Bluetooth software is part of the firmware update and hence it cannot be done via bluetooth…

You don’t have to pull apart your mob to view ser.num. You can type *#06# and it displays it.

  10. ZP Says:

I’ve upgraded my N70 firmware several times without any problems… I recently tried to do it on an N95 and everything went smooth until suddenly there was a message saying connection lost: remove battery, put it back and reconnect to continue upgrade. I did it and nothing happened. Tried many work arounds suggested by googling the pronblem, but to no avail. The firmware was corrupt and my PC wasn’t detecting the phone. So i wasn’t able to upgrade the firmware again. I did finally take it to nokia priority, thinking it’ll be fixed easily. However, they sent the phone to the head office and have asked me to come back in 2 weeks. Was fortunate to still have the warranty, else it would’ve been very hard on my pockets. UPGRADING firmware is a good idea, provided things don’t go wrong, cos if they do, you’ll have to go through too much trouble.

about the automatic off and start problem of 3110c, i think i have the solution, i hope it will work……. do not store themes in your memory card and apply it through there, move the downloaded themes to phone memory and apply it from there….. i hope this will work on you because it did on mine………..

  31. amras666 Says:

To all of you who want to use 3110c 6.01 firmware - I updated my phone using phoenix 2007 (look for it around it needs crack and works with generic usb cable), also google for “4.00 6.01 rm-237″ this will direct you to the software package - exe file of about 20 megabytes. Also google for some tutorial of how to update software using phoenix, there are plenty around the net.

I don’t recommend it as 6.01 updates really nothing - no resetting phone solution, you will still have those nasty Pause and Back during fullscreen video playback… not worthy. But if you are really eager to get it - follow instructions above.

The easy way to prevent your phone from restarting during updating music library is; the music file must have no artist, title, genre, etc. I mean it will only a single file not having other information.

Hi, I have bought my 3110c for about a month and now i am seriously frustrated with it….it is made in hungary (not made by nokia..made by nokia is actually made in china).

The main problem is its camera, Every picture i lake with it has a greenish effect all over the picture, especially in low light, even in bright conditions, objects with the color black has greenish effect in the picture…pls help me to solve this problem.

The second problem is that the video player has two back and pause buttons on it while playing videos in full screen…so i want to know if there is any 3g0 video player available for nokia 3110c.

The third problem is restarting, although it is not so frequent but its very irritating. I have tried to upgrade the firm ware using nokia pc suite but it does not work. I have download something like phoniex updater from rapidshare, but that also does work.

So guys i want to know can all these problems be solved by updating the firmware to the latest version? And by the way i use my nokia 3110c as an internet modem, so does it put pressure on it if i use it too much?

I would be very grateful if anybody helps me with this problems.
